Ephesians, Week 12

Reflecting on Ephesians

“… far more abundantly than all that we ask or think…”

When I reflect on this study of Ephesians, this phrase stands out as particularly meaningful to me. I’ve heard it so many times. But now, after looking deeply over these past few months into just how dead I was in my trespasses and sin when God raised me with Christ, just how divided from others when He united me in love to the Church, the body of Christ, just how helpless to walk uprightly when He put His Spirit within me to guide and equip me… only now do I feel the weight of these words.

There are some hard and heavy things in this life. And sometimes it feels like those things will never change. Until one day… they do. The Spirit of God moves and, in an instant, the spiritually dead are made alive. Longstanding dividing walls of hostility are broken down, and peace and unity reign. Insurmountable struggles with sin are overcome by His power.

God is capable of more than my human mind can fathom. He is able to do far more abundantly than all I ask or think. God, help me to pray and to trust and to walk in light of this truth.
